Estimated total time. This covers the full recipe from start to finish, including preparation and any resting, chilling, baking, or cooling. Some of that time is hands-off.

When you want a beef wrap with something fresh in every bite, the filling matters as much as the tortilla. These rolls tuck cucumber sticks and a generous handful of herbs alongside ground beef coated in sweet chili sauce. You get the warm filling and lightly crisp outside, with green cucumber and leaves still visible when you cut across the middle.
I’d choose these when a regular sandwich feels a little plain but you still want something you can pick up and eat. Thai basil, ginger, and chopped peanuts give this filling its character. For another skillet recipe with a very different sauce, my Garlic Butter Chicken Bites are worth a look.
Ingredients for Thai Basil Beef Rolls
I keep the green onion in two portions: half belongs with the beef and half with the fresh filling. Thai sweet chili sauce is separate from the soy sauce or tamari. The cucumber, cilantro, Thai basil, and roasted peanuts give the filling its fresh, crisp contrast.

- 300 g ground beef
- 1 g ground black pepper
- 5 g garlicminced
- 10 g fresh gingergrated
- 2 g paprika
- 35 g soy sauce or tamari
- 30 g Thai sweet chili sauce
- 30 g green onionchopped, divided
- 1 cucumber
- 25 g fresh cilantro
- 7 g Thai basil
- 20 g roasted peanutsroughly chopped
- 4 flour tortillas
How to Make Thai Basil Beef Rolls
I allow about 30 minutes for preparing the filling, cooking the beef, assembling four rolls, and crisping them in a roomy skillet. This is an approximate total; allow longer if your skillet needs a second batch.
Brown the beef
I heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. I cook it for about 4 to 5 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until well browned and fully cooked.
Add the aromatics
I add the black pepper, minced garlic, grated ginger, and paprika. I stir and cook for about 1 minute.

Coat with sauce
I pour in the soy sauce or tamari and the Thai sweet chili sauce. I cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce has slightly thickened and evenly coated the beef.
Add green onion
I stir in half of the chopped green onion, then remove the skillet from the heat. I keep the other half for filling the rolls.

Prepare the fresh filling
I peel the cucumber and cut it into thin sticks. I prepare the cilantro, Thai basil, chopped peanuts, and remaining green onion so everything is ready for the tortillas.

Warm the tortillas
I warm the tortillas for a few seconds on each side in a dry skillet, just until softer and easier to roll.
Fill each tortilla
I divide the beef mixture among the four tortillas. I add cucumber sticks, cilantro, Thai basil, the remaining green onion, and chopped peanuts to each.

Fold and roll
I fold the sides of each tortilla slightly inward, then roll it tightly into a compact roll.
Crisp the rolls
I heat a nonstick skillet and place the rolls seam-side down. I cook them for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, turning carefully, until the outside is lightly golden and crisp.
Serve immediately
I serve the rolls immediately while the tortillas are crisp and the beef filling is warm.
Tips that make a difference
- Cut the cucumber into thin sticks so it sits neatly inside the tortilla without making the roll bulky.
- Keep the two portions of green onion separate so there is still some ready for the fresh filling.
- Warm each tortilla just until flexible so it folds around the filling more easily.
- Start with the seam against the skillet and turn gently so the compact rolls stay together.
A Look Inside the Roll
I'd cut a roll across the middle so you can see the cucumber and herbs next to the saucy beef. Serve them straight from the skillet to keep that lightly crisp tortilla at its best.
